The Prayer Movement
A Call To Prayer & Fasting
Friends, by now you may have heard me call people in our movement of churches to a number of “24 Hour Prayer Vigils” leading up to important times of decision making. Praise God, there is a growing momentum of prayer amongst our churches.
Once again, we are heading towards a crucial time for our denomination. We are about to consider restructuring the way we operate at a denominational level to better empower our churches to reach people for Christ, in the generation to come.
These decisions need to be thoroughly covered in prayer! And to that end I believe that God is calling us to gather a “Momentum of Prayer” leading up to the meetings on the 22nd & 23rd July. The way we are encouraging this to happen is through Fasting in order to Pray.
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants…
(Nehemiah 1:4-6)
WHY FAST? The idea of fasting is more about breaking into our normal routines to remind us to pray than the discipline of denial. Hopefully there will be some really creative ways of fasting and praying that emerge. So keep an eye on what emerges on the website.
